The NANOX PVD coating process is carried out in a vacuum environment at 200°C-500°C, so there are certain requirements for the workpiece to be coated. For the entire workpiece, not just the coated part.
Coatable workpiece materials #
Nash needs to understand the coatedsubstratesmaterial, hardness and heat treatment tempering temperature in order to provide reasonable process conditions. Materials that are too cheap, or substrates that are too soft, decompose at high temperatures, or change in form are not suitable for PVD hard coatings.
Materials that can be coated:
- High alloy tool steel, high speed steel, stainless steel
- Cemented carbide
- aluminum alloy
- nickel alloy
- Tool steel must be tempered twice at 500°C and guaranteed to have a hardness that can be satisfied
- The surface of the workpiece must be electrically conductive (Naxion does not do non-metallic coatings such as plastic substrate coatings for the time being).
Coating part #
Please clearly identify the parts to be PVD coated. It is unlikely that the parts of the workpiece that need to have a top fixture will be fully plated. If partial masking is required, please inform NanoShield in advance. For better coverage, customized fixtures are required.
Workpiece surface limitation #
The surface of the substrate should be polished Ra<0.2 is suitable. For transportation, please pay attention to the packing problem, especially for easy deformation and mirror surface molds. Nasi provides transportation service by car, which can protect the workpieces and also ensure the delivery time.
Note that the workpiece is not suitable for coating:
- No burrs on the blade
- Other surface modifications such as nickel plating, carburizing, nitriding (non-nano-lion process), phosphating, oxidative blackening, TD or CVD have been done.
- The surface of the weldment should be thoroughly cleaned, without oxidized layer or buried holes.
- Paint, electrophoresis
- Rust, stains
- oxide layer
- Surface is too rough; too coarse a blast finish can affect bonding
- Residue after polishing and grinding
Other Precautions #
- Machined workpieces should be sprayed with anti-rust oil or wrapped with anti-rust paper immediately after pretreatment.
- Avoid burrs. If possible, chamfer R 0.1-0.2
- In order to support vacuum coating mounting, please consider making shanks, holes, taps, etc.
- For bore coatings, theAperture ratio (aspect ratio)Less than 1:1
- Cannot be an assembled kit, need to be disassembled individually before doing the PVD coating
- Please consider transportation and packaging issues, especially deformation, edge, rust prevention, etc.
